  • OK,so mykl and i talked about this, and we pretty much have the same vision for the thing. If you have ideas on how you want it to look comment here,we’ll bend with the wind. Our idea so far, pending yours,is:a “booth” more or less 3 feet square, about 7 feet high. A door faces the street. You enter the booth and close the door. Maybe some stuff happens automatically (sounds, lights, etc) or maybe you have to press a button or something.

There’s a control panel inside. You have to operate the control panel in a way that makes some sort of sense. One idea is,there’s choices of times to visit (”Ancient Rome! 1,000,000 BC! Mars Colony 2084! …”) (OK,why do time travel machines also transport you geographically?) but they are all OUT OF ORDER. You pick one that works (”Playa,2009!”). Press START. Fanfare ensues.

Mykl puts it,you think you’re operating art or a sculpture, but you’re really experiencing sound and music, plus some lights and stuff. Total experience time is something like 30 seconds to a minute and a half. Has to be brief, engaging, fun. Everyone gets bored by shit.

Control panel tbd. I’m agnostic,i’ll contribute tech or parts but will let others design. Would be great if emily could do the sound as per some email. Benji &emily, umm, the tt booth is ultimate steampunk tech! jules fucking verne!

The booth itself is tbd,i picture it anchored over four in the playa for simplicity and stability. steel (square or conduit) frame,a stiff roof. Plenty of room physical and otherwise for decoration and such.

THESE ARE JUST OUR HALF-ASSED IDEAS not STATEMENTS OF FACKS. We await your every command. Well some commands, the fun ones.

This was the time pod narative I wrote and sent out to the discussion list. Thought this might be a good place to put it.

    Time Pod.
I’ve been working with a guy down here who has made some great soundscape installations using Show controllers and MP3 repeaters. So I’ve been designing something that would include a sound recording and it would turn on and off devices like LEDS and could have a couple of switches that activate it. Something along the lines of an electric eye that when it’s broken starts the recording and then an activate switch,BIG BUTTON,that lights up and you press ,and it activates a bunch of sound and light effects. I’m thinking the recording could say something along the lines of:

    Female announcers voice.
“Welcome to C02 time travel pod number seven. Please extinguish any smoking materials fold your tray into it’s fully locked upright position. Time travel caries some inherent dangers, these include coughing, psychosis, loss of bowel control, urination, vomiting, earwax buildup, synesthesia, amnesia, splinching and being eaten by dinosaurs. In the event that part of you remains in the present and part of you is transported into the the past or future C02 will not be held liable. Time travel is a relatively new technology and certain factors of an indeterminate nature remain to be figured out. these include whether you are projected forward or backward in time and the distance in time traveled. The pod is now ready for time travel activation”. Button lights up. Person in pod presses button. Lights flash things click, shake, steam is released, whatever,Male voice,“C02 TTP ready for projection, please clear the flux vortex, all systems are a go. Time travel in 5 4 3 2 1″. exit sign lights up. Female voice once again,“Thank you for traveling C02 pod seven you have traveled 2 seconds into the past, have a nice day. Please exit now.”

I like the tent idea but it would be cool to have a facade that was a bit more substantial and looked time machine/steampunkesc.

What do you think? Could this idea be integrated with your device tom?

I’ve secured a solid state MP3 repeater with a class d integrated amp. it runs on anything from 12-24V I’ve also got a small solar panel mounted in a steel frame that might work well with this project I’ll put up a picture when I get a chance.
I’d like to also get a certain show controller and I’m working on that part. Most of the rest of what I’m thinking is just looking around and seeing what i’ve got and building around that.

The other issue that comes to mind is of course transportation and if we’re all working on bits and pieces what can we do to make it all work together smoothly.
So them’s my ideas so far but nothing in stone.
    Thoughts other ideas?
